On Thursday, October 24th, SMC had 20 South Park Middle School students who are involved in a technical education course tour our facility. They were shown how our manufacturing process works from start to finish to get a glimpse into Metal Fabrication.
The first part of the process that was shown to them was how a part is engineered and then the programming that needs to happen before sending anything out to the machines.
From there, they moved on to the Laser and Press Brake area. They were able to see the same part being formed as they saw engineered and programmed.
The next stop was Welding. Here, they were able to see our robotic welder in action. The robot even had a few words to say of its own as shown in the picture below!
The final stop of the tour was our Powder Coat Paintline. Here the students learned the process that the product must go through prior to entering the paint booth, while in the paint booth, and the packaging of the product.
The students were then tasked to write an essay for the Oshkosh Chamber of Commerce Manufacturing Career Essay contest. The winners will read their essays aloud at a special lunch on Monday, November 25th that is being hosted by the Oshkosh Rotary.
